cinco de mayo

Feliz cinco de mayo! Did you do anything special? I didn't, wooohooo!

Saturday morning long run was a hot 13 miles. I left my place at 7 am and was feeling the sun by 8. Summer in the central valley is not fun.

I kept the pace slow. It actually felt slow motion slow. I looked down at my watch a few times and was running a 9:30 min/mile pace. I felt slow, I wanted to run faster but my hip was hurting and I really don't want to hurt myself any more.

The pain began towards the end of the run (around mile 9) but was worse during the day. If I sit for too long, I feel a cramp on my hip and my leg tingles and hurts. I need to do some googling and try to find out what the problem could be.

i miss my running route...

I loved my long run running route. It was long enough for a 24 mile LR and challenging enough for a 10 mile run. It had rolling hills. The shoulder was wide enough for a group. There were a few water fountains. It was near a trail. sigh…

I mentioned before that Dinuba is FLAT. Flat is boring.

Last week I went out for a 12 mile run on Alta Ave which turns into RD 80. It's the road that connects Dinuba to thing remotely fun in Visalia or any town south. Its surrounded by orchards (which has a nice nature/ country feeling) except there's construction, dirt and mayhem all around. No water fountain, no hills, no shade, no fun.

The run wasn't amazing. 12 miles were done. Can't complain.

This morning, I water to do 13 miles but didn't really feel like venturing out into the open and loose dirt road so I decided to run 5 miles around my neighbor and then run to the Jr. High ( a total of 3 miles, back and forth) and run 5 miles around the track. It wasn't terrible; there was a water fountain, zero spectators and there's dirt and cement options. 5 miles isn't too mind numbing and totally doable but anymore than that would have sucked.

It didn't suck. It wasn't awesome.

I miss the hills, the challenge, the So-Cal breeze. I miss my old running route.

Tell me about your favorite running route? Least favorite?

a new 22 mile route + Galaxy locker room

My long slow run this weekend was exactly that, long and slow.

I usually do 10+ miles or hills on Palos Verdes Dr. which is right down the road from my place. I heard if you keep going down that street it goes down to the coast and you can make a hilly and scenic 20 mile loop.

Before I left I mapped it on mapmyrun.com just to be sure. I was super excited that this application provided the altitude map.

The run was slow because there were so many hills and my thighs felt tight the moment I left my apartment. However, the run didn't feel long. Maybe it was the scenic/route change but it went by pretty fast, even though it took me almost 4 hours to complete.

I came home and sat in icy-ICE water. Knees and ankles were achy and I think the ice bath helped. The rest of the day was spent lounging around, but not before getting out LA Galaxy fix.

The Home Depot Center was sponsoring a little get together for ticket holders. There were a bunch of kids playing on the field and we got a little tour of the place. Please excuse my messed-up bangs. I spent way too much time with my ice bath and only had 10 minutes to get ready.

LA Galaxy Locker room! eeek!
