shake out run

Post published on: Tuesday 2/5/13

On Sunday I took rest and recovery very seriously, I think I took 2 naps while watching the Super Bowl and wore my compression socks and sweatpants all day. And I also gave myself a very painful massage with The Stick and foam ruler.

The Stick is a painful little tool that I received as a Christmas gift from my sister. Its like using a rolling pin on your muscles but it totally loosens you up.

Monday after the marathon I felt pretty good. I think it was because of the compression/ stick combo. My legs were a little stiff but not super sore. I didn't go for a run simply because I know better, recovery is important and I need to give myself a break.

I did go to CrossFit. The WOD wasn't endurance based and I thought I could do it without hurting myself. The workout consisted of finding your max weight for the deadlift, back squat and push press. I challenged myself but was still conscience of my body and the way my legs were feeling.

This morning I did a slow 6 mile jog/walk. I jogged for 2 miles and walked for 1/2 for a total of 6 miles. This little workout took a long long time. Good thing I had the time for this leisurely shake out run.

I feel a lot better today. It still feels uncomfortable to squat or do a toe touch but considering I ran a marathon 2 days ago, I feel pretty amazing.

Weird thing; I'm already thinking of doing it again ??? which is crazy because at mile 19, I told myself "never again"

Suggestions for my next marathon?

Do you have to limit your allowed time to workout?

Do you like to lift heavy stuff? I'm not

a chilly trail run

The hardest part of my 10.5 mile trail run today was getting up at 5 am, to be more specific, getting out of bed. It was cold in my room and I figured it was freezing outside. I tried to make myself as warm as possible for my run. I'm wearing a headband, 2 long sleeve shirts (one of them is a sweater), gloves, a t-shirt, and capri pants.

This picture was taken after my run so I'm pretty sweaty and gross.

Check out all the mud all over my calf and socks. haha.

All the layers were too much. I was hot after the first mile. I always forget that I am going to get warm once I start running. Duh!

The run itself was amazing, for the first time I wasn't so focused on  the hills and just the sights. The smell of nature is amazing! It was crisp and the sun was shining on the trail and it looked pretty amazing. I think this time I finished the loop 5 minutes faster than last week.

It was a heck of a workout which has me worried about tomorrow's half. I decided during my last mile that tomorrow should just be for fun. I'm going to try my best but I"m not going full out, which means I probably won't PR but I'm okay with that.

I already laid out my outfit for tomorrow. It is pretty random based on today's cold morning and the fact that I will probably heat up during the actual run. Notice the beanie, gloves and tank top.

Have a great weekend!!

Do you overdress on cold days?

When planning an outfit, do you lay out stuff "in case"'?

Plans for this weekend?

crossfit deal

I was really excited to see a living social deal in my email this morning. Its a month of unlimited classes to a local crossfit location. The location is right down the street from where I live, so of course I bought it.

here's the link: http://www.livingsocial.com/deals/451858-one-month-of-unlimited-crossfit-classes-for-two

I love crossfit. It is really intense and addictive.  I have tried it a few times but never actually bought a membership. The classes are ridiculously expensive.  The last place I looked at was $100 a week, for unlimited classes but even if I went everyday I can't afford $20 for a one hour class.

I'll let you know how this month trial goes, and who knows maybe I'll stay for good.

This morning I ran 7 easy miles, really easy. It was chilly and it reminded me that I have to look for running headband to run in, like a thermo-headband to keep my ears warm. Its on my weekend to-do list.

Because it has been chilly, I'm making caldo de pollo today. Its the first thing I ever learned to cook and I'm sure it makes my mom proud to know that I eat more than egg sandwiches.

Are you a good cook?

Have you ever tried cross fit?

Do you get living social or groupon deals? How often do you find good stuff?
